Featuring Debrief Discussion with Dr. Chris Dede and Ashley Etemadi
Apps such as ChatGPT and DALL-E call into question which tasks previously done by people will now be done by machines—or by machines working in partnership with people. For the latter, human workers can be deskilled in their job roles or can upskill to complement what AI can do, enabling more effective performance than either humans or AI can do alone (intelligence augmentation: IA). In this workshop, we will discuss three areas in which IA may reshape human occupational skills in the next decade:
- AI-based “what if” modeling that improves some types of human decisions
- Higher accomplishments in human creation of innovative artifacts
- Improved negotiation, collaboration, and empathy in the workplace
The first component of this module entails completing the readings and reflection questions that are outlined in this Participant Guide Sheet. There is time built into the schedule to complete this on the day of the workshop, but you are also welcome to review it in advance.
