The Social Thinker and Learner: Using Others’ Minds Well in the Context of Work

This session will offer an introduction to concepts related to socially distributed cognition, group flow, and how we can make the most of the social contexts around us to support our best learning and work performance. Following a brief presentation of different ways to think about social thinking and learning, we’ll look at and analyze some video examples together.

Materials to Complete Prior to Live Session:

Set aside 20 minutes or so to listen to the narrated PowerPoint/Podcast.  It will invite you to pause at various points to reflect upon your own experiences and thinking.  Towards the end of the PowerPoint you will be asked to watch three brief video clips of people engaged in interactions that relate to group flow. The links for these are below. Watch them and consider them in light of each other and the questions listed at the end of the video.  We will watch them again together and discuss them using the question set and some additional research about social cognition.
