On December 13th, 2022, our Faculty Director Dr. Tina Grotzer had the opportunity to share ideas and research from the lab at the Museum of Science in Boston’s inaugural gathering of education and industry leaders, entitled The Future of Work: A Superintendents’ Convening. The Museum of Science seeks to act as a catalyst through which industry, education, community, and the public may convene to discuss key science issues of our time. This event was the first in a broader effort that seeks to help superintendents envision the workforce of the future and the challenges that it may present. It invited them to hear from business leaders, innovators, academics, and community partners and to share their ideas for how these groups can support schools in preparing young people. The Next Level Lab presentation focused on work in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (“VUCA”) world and the need to develop lifelong learners who know how their minds work, how to chart learning paths, and how to modify social, emotional, and cognitive contexts to support their best performance in the world of work.
